Last updated: June, 2020Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is committed to safeguarding your privacy. This Privacy Statement describes CPI’s policies and procedures on the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information. This Privacy Policy applies to the following websites: climatepolicyinitiative.org, climatefinancelab.org, citiesclimatefinance.org, usicef.org, and certain other websites through which we may collect data from you (collectively, the “Sites”). You are advised to consult the “Privacy Policy” link on the Sites each time you visit them. Your continued use of the Sites constitutes your agreement to the Policy, as it may be amended from time to time. If you do not agree to be bound by this Privacy Statement, please do not use or submit any information to this website or to CPI.
This Privacy Statement incorporates CPI’s Terms & Conditions. We strongly encourage you to review the Terms & Conditions which follow immediately after the privacy policy.
Privacy Policy
Collection and Use
CPI gathers two basic types of information through our Sites: “Personal Information” and “Non-Personal Information.” Personal Information is information that identifies you as an individual, for example, your name, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address, employer and profile information. Non-Personal Information is aggregated information, demographic information, IP addresses, and any other information that does not reveal specific identifying information about you.
CPI collects your personal information in a variety of ways. Much of this information is provided directly from you. For example, when you register for an event or sign up for Research and News Alerts, you provide us with your email address. CPI also collects personal information about individuals who participate in or contribute to its research, surveys, reports, and other programs.
CPI may also collect your name and e-mail address when you contact CPI for general information purposes so we can respond to your request. For example, if you contact us to subscribe to Research and News Alerts, or if you sign up for one of our events. You may unsubscribe from the Research and News Alerts by following the instructions at the bottom of the email or sending an e-mail with “unsubscribe” in the subject heading to the following e-mail address: adminsf@cpiglobal.org.
CPI has offices in Delhi, Jakarta, London, Nairobi, Rio de Janeiro, and San Francisco. Each of these offices partners with other research and policy institutions in order to draw on resources and expertise in these locations. CPI shares many common goals with these institutions, and in some instances may share experts and other human resources. CPI and its partners may gather personal information of persons attending conferences, meetings, webinars and other events organized or attended by CPI and/or its partners. CPI and its partners gather this information to create and maintain a contact directory containing personal information of individuals who are likely to be interested in receiving information concerning our activities and our publications.
Retention of Personal Data
We may retain your personal data for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we have collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, accounting, reporting, insurance, professional indemnity, internal policy or other requirements.
We may anonymize your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes. In such cases, we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.
Cookies and Other Technology
When you visit our Sites, it may store or retrieve information on your browser or device, mostly in the form of cookies, but also in the form of third-party tracking tools, such as Google Analytics. This information might be about you, your use of the Sites, your user preferences or your device, and is mostly used to make the Sites work as you expect them to. The information does not usually directly identify you, but it can give you a more personalized web experience.
If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to automatically decline cookies, or to be given the choice of declining or accepting the transfer of a particular cookie, or cookies from a particular website, to your computer. However, if you choose to disable any cookies, some features of the Sites may become disabled, and some aspects of the Sites may not function properly, including language translation features.
If you continue to use the Sites without changing your settings, you consent to our use of cookies and other tools on the Sites.
Disclosure
CPI does not sell or rent your personal information under any circumstances. In addition, it is not our policy to share or disclose your personal information without first receiving your express permission, subject to the following exceptions:
- CPI may disclose your personal information to third party service providers that help provide services on our behalf (e.g., newsletter distribution service providers).
- CPI may disclose information about its users if required to do so by law or in its good-faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process.
- CPI may disclose information about its users to law enforcement officers or others to as required by law, respond to claims that any posting or other content violates the rights of third-parties, or to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of, as appropriate, CPI, its users, or the general public.
- CPI may take your personal information and aggregate it with other users’ information (so that it is anonymous and does not identify you) and present the statistics to potential donors.
Reviewing, Changing and/or Deleting your Personal Information
You may request to review, change and/or delete any personal information you have on file with us at any time by sending an e-mail to adminsf@cpiglobal.org.
Our Policy towards Children
CPI does not knowingly or intentionally collect information from children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, please do not register with CPI or provide any personal information about yourself to us. If you are 13 years old or older, we still recommend that you obtain your parental or guardian consent before providing your information to us. If you believe that we have collected information from a child under 13 years old, please contact us hr@cpiglobal.org.
Notice Regarding Security
CPI seeks to have security measures in place to help protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as perfect security in an online environment. As a result, we cannot, and do not, guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us through or in connection with the Sites or that CPI stores on our or our agents’ systems.
Third Party Sites
The Sites may contain links to third party websites. These linked sites are not under CPI’s control and CPI is not responsible for the privacy practices or the contents of any such linked site, or any link contained in any linked site. CPI provides such links only as a convenience, and the inclusion of a link on the Sites does not imply endorsement of the linked site by CPI. If you provide any Personal Information through any such third party website, your interaction will occur on such third party’s web site (not the Sites) and the Personal Information you provide will be collected by, and controlled by the privacy policy of, that third party. CPI recommends that you familiarize yourself with the privacy policies and practices of any such third parties. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POLICY DOES NOT ADDRESS THE PRIVACY OR INFORMATION PRACTICES OF ANY THIRD PARTIES.

CPI does not represent or warrant that the Sites or any part thereof are appropriate or available for use in any particular jurisdiction. Those who choose to access the Sites do so on their own initiative, and are responsible for complying with all local laws, rules, and regulations.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE MAY PROCESS, TRANSFER OR STORE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT THROUGH THE SITES TO COUNTRIES WHERE WE HAVE FACILITIES, OFFICES, EMPLOYEES OR SERVICE PROVIDERS, INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES, THAT MAY NOT PROVIDE THE SAME LEVEL OF DATA PROTECTION AS YOUR HOME COUNTRY. BY USING THE SITES, YOU CONSENT TO SUCH TRANSFER OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION to countries outside of your country of residence, including the United States, which may have data protection rules that are different from those of your country. In certain circumstances, courts, law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies or security authorities in those other countries may be entitled to access your Personal Information.
