Indonesia is tackling a dual challenge of housing shortages and rising urban emissions. With Gap Fund support, cities in South Sumatra developed digital tools, green housing guidelines, and designs for 100 affordable, resilient homes. The initiative laid the foundation for Indonesia’s Green and Affordable Housing Program, targeting one million green homes by 2030.

Kinshasa Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Resilience

Kinshasa, one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, faces mounting climate risks from rapid and informal urban expansion. With USD260,000 in Gap Fund support, the city enhanced its climate-informed urban planning through risk assessments, emissions modeling, and capacity building. The effort produced a city-wide NbS strategy identifying USD153 million in resilient investment opportunities.

Dakar Electric Bus Rapid Transit (e-BRT)

The 18.3 km BRT corridor includes 23 stations linking Guédiawaye to central Dakar. The system operates 121 electric articulated buses, serving an estimated 300,000 passengers daily. Travel time between terminals reduced from 90 to ~45 minutes, improving accessibility and reducing congestion and pollution
